Olá a todos. Sou novo no fórum e sou um estrangeiro. Meu português é muito mau. Posso fazer algumas perguntas em inglês faz favor? I've moved to Portugal (Cascais area) recently and now I'm thinking about buying a Prius 2G here but I will need more local insights before I decide to buy one. Can you help me, please? All tips in English or Portuguese are welcome.

1. Do regular oficinas and mecanicos know how to deal with hibrid cars or you rather go to Toyota to do the maintenance? Does an avarage mecanico know how to change fluids, breaks or wheel bearing without checking YouTube tutorials?

2. What would be your solution in case of a major breakdown like a dead inverter for instance? Is it doable to find a used inverter somewhere and then an independent mechanic to replace it when you want to avoid expenses at Toyota?

3. Do you pay less tax due to having a hybrid car here?

4. How much is it to replace a HV battery at Toyota in Portugal? What period of time does the warranty work for a new battery? I reached out to them via email but didn't get an answer.

5. Do you think there's still a chance to find a 2gen Prius without a serious accident history and with no odometer rollback?

Sorry if these topics where already started here before. I probably used wrong palavras-chaves while trying to find some info :)

Obrigado antecipadamente

Andy

1. All hybrid cars from Toyota are easy to maintain. The mechanics are very simple, and any good mechanic can do the basic maintenance of these cars without problem. However, I would not recommend another location other than the official Toyota network.

2. I would go directly to a Toyota dealership. You can always try somewhere else, but I woudn't recommend it.

3. Welcome to Portugal. Cars are the number one source of revenue. There is only a small reduction in tax on the purchase of a new car.

4. Between 1500 and 1700 eur. There's a 2 year warranty for the new battery.

5. Yes, it's possible, but it's a matter of luck.

Obrigado Carlos. What makes this 200 eur difference? It depends on the dealer or the region of the country?

The two ads that got my attention so far are:

Área de Braga. This one is nice but I'm not sure what the HV battery condition is with such a low kilometragem - only 11000 km yearly mais o menos.

Área de Lisboa. It's a High Pack version, and this ad was refreshed several times. So it's been on OLX for at least two months I guess.

What do you guys think?

both ads seems legit, maybe you can ask for more details, like toyota repair history or crash history (for this case you just need the licence plate and any insurance agent can help you).

Boa Tarde,

Talvez possa contribuir.

I'm still hunting, and wanted to ask you when there's a need to change your correia/cadeia (timing chain) in the 1,5 engine of the gen2? I came across this car (link below), and the seller says the kit distribuição has just been replaced. The quilometragem is around 140k.

https://www.custojusto.pt/braganca/ligeiros-passageiros/toyota-prius-1-5-hybrido-c-novo-28117496

Or maybe I don't get the meaning of the kit distribuição, and it's not the timing chain itself but a belt of a water pump that unlike a timing belt needs to be replaced sooner or later?

Obrigado

Boa tarde

A corrente de distribuição não é propriamente para substituir nestes motores VVTI da Toyota. É um elemento extremamente durável.

Concordo contigo, o vendedor deve estar a referir-se à correia dos acessórios, e que liga à bomba de água.

Obrigado Telmo, that helps me a lot. I still try to get the exact history of the car from the seller, before I take the 400 km trip to see the car. Obrigado outra vez.
